The local government area of focus is designed to provide you with a strong foundation in environmental, economic, and community development as well as practical skills related to policy implementation and evaluation. You will explore topics such as ethics, organization development, intergovernmental relations, and budgeting concepts and techniques. Coursework also examines current trends in environmental policy and administration.
Students who would like to tailor the online MPA program to the Local Government focus area must complete three courses from the recommended electives below:

- Productivity in Local Government
- Navigating Nonprofit-Local Government Relations in Organizations
- Government and Nonprofit Accounting and Reporting
