MPA@UNC Announces Cross-University Course Enrollment

MPA@UNC students now have the opportunity to choose from dozens of new electives as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill joins with other leading universities in a cross-university course enrollment initiative.

Developed in conjunction with 2U, Inc., the education technology company that powers online programs at UNC and other top institutions across the country, this new initiative will enable MPA@UNC students to take select graduate courses offered at participating partner schools.

As MPA@UNC Director Todd Nicolet explains, “Cross-university course enrollment provides our students a wide range of electives from some of the best master’s degree programs in the country. Depending on their career interests, our students can study public health policy with experts at the George Washington University or marketing strategy at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.”
Using the same online platform they use for MPA@UNC courses, students will be able to take electives through a variety of degree programs:*

  • MPH@GW, the online Master of Public Health from the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University
  • MBA@UNC, the online MBA from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School
  • MSW@USC, the online Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California School of Social Work

“The cross-university course enrollment program is a logical complement to the interdisciplinary nature of the public administration field,” continues Nicolet, “and it expands the pool of electives already available through our focus areas in community and economic development, local government, and nonprofit management.”

The Future of Cross-University Collaboration

All of these programs are supported by the University of North Carolina’s technology partner 2U.
According to 2U CEO Chip Paucek, this collaboration is just the beginning.

“As the 2U network continues to grow, we’re going to empower our university partners, including the UNC School of Government, to offer their students a growing array of elective courses taught by outstanding faculty at graduate schools across the country. Because these courses are co-developed and supported by 2U technology, our partners will be able to offer students a seamless classroom experience, complete with the immersive content, 24/7 access, and face-to-face instruction their students have come to expect.”

But, concludes Paucek, “We’re doing more than simply expanding electives. We’re offering students a chance to gain new perspectives, connecting them with issues, ideas, and experts in other fields at other universities. And we think that’s pretty exciting.”
