PUBA 746: MPA Portfolio
Credit Hours: 1.5
What is your vision for public service leadership? Taken during their final semester, the MPA Portfolio course guides students as they collect “artifacts” that demonstrate their mastery of the program’s core competencies. Samples from coursework, professional work experiences, research assistantships, and other projects are assembled into a portfolio. A cover memo is attached that reflects a student’s learning and development over time. Students also write one new paper that details their public leadership vision.
While a faculty committee reviews the portfolios, students spend their remaining time in class practicing for oral exams. This shared process gives students the opportunity to be as prepared and comfortable as possible for the live exam.
The portfolio, memos, leadership paper, and oral exam allow both the student and their faculty committee to see what the student has done well and where they might need further development as they move into their career and through increasing levels of public service leadership.
